Winter Fun for the Whole Family
Get back to nature with a stroll through the forests and lakes of this lovely part of the world.
Although many people come to Engadin for skiing and snowboarding, there's plenty of opportunity to indulge in more leisurely pursuits and simply enjoy the beautiful environment at your own pace. With frozen lakes, towering mountains and wonderfully clear alpine light, it is also a photographer's dream.
There are several toboggan runs to discover in the region, and if you have never jumped in a toboggan before, you will find it is just as much fun as it looks. This run is the fastest in the region, and offers 20 curves and a hair-raising 705m vertical drop as it travels through pine larch forests – fantastic for thrill-seekers, and one run won't be enough! It is easily accessible via funicular railway, and the panoramic views of the Upper Engadin are well worth the trip too.
This 5km (4 miles) run is a great experience for the whole family, stretching from Preda to Bergün along the snowy expanse of the Albula Pass road. While the run itself is sure to be an unforgettable highlight of your break, the journey there is just as exciting: the Rhaetian Railway passes through a UNESCO World Heritage site that has been described as something from a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. The railway stations at Preda and Bergün each helpfully offer their own toboggan rental services.
As the sun sets behind the towering peaks of the Engadin Valley, a different kind of magic awakens in St. Moritz. Night sledding at the Albula Pass offers an exhilarating experience, where the thrill of racing down a snowy slope combines with the enchanting atmosphere of a Swiss winter night. Whether you’re seeking a family-friendly adventure or an adrenaline rush, this unique activity promises unforgettable memories beneath starry skies.
Located in La Punt Chamues-ch, the Albula Pass transforms into a haven for sledding enthusiasts as night falls. The sledding trail, illuminated by flickering torches, creates a picturesque pathway down the mountain. The excitement begins with a bus ride to the top, offered free of charge for one or two trips. As you prepare for your descent, the crisp mountain air and the quiet beauty of the night set the stage for an exhilarating ride.
With every twist and turn, the torch-lit trail offers a blend of speed and serenity, making it perfect for both young and old. At the base, warm up with complimentary mulled wine and non-alcoholic punch, provided by La Punt’s holiday organizers, as you share stories of your nighttime adventure.
While night sledding is a fun and thrilling experience, safety is paramount. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sleds and wear helmets for added protection. Headlamps are also highly recommended to enhance visibility and ensure a safer descent. Remember, insurance is the responsibility of each participant, so come prepared to enjoy this adventure with peace of mind.
For those staying closer to the heart of St. Moritz, night sledding at the Tschainas slope in Celerina offers another fantastic option. During the winter sports holidays, the slope near the valley station is illuminated, creating a magical scene. The Engadin St. Moritz Mountains AG operates the Tschainas chairlift on these special nights, providing easy access to a freshly groomed sledding track. If you don’t have a sled, no worries—rentals are available on-site, ensuring you have everything you need for an unforgettable night.
Moving from the thrilling descents and tranquil paths of Tobogganing & Hiking, lace up for some Ice-skating and Curling. Glide across the ice in the open air or under a starlit sky, a magical experience for couples, families, or solo adventurers. For those seeking strategy and teamwork, curling provides an engaging alternative, offering fun and competition on the ice.
