Berlin, 25 January 2023 – Since moving from Frankfurt to Berlin, Karina Ansos, Managing Director of Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin, has thrown herself into her new tasks with enthusiasm and in a very short time has been able to win over her team and the hotel guests alike with her "can-do mentality". For the year 2023, the native Frenchwoman will focus primarily on attractive, culinary concepts, which she would like to either relaunch, further perfect or bring back to life at the luxury hotel at the Brandenburg Gate. The 50-strong kitchen brigade with their great know-how, are at her side to implement them, led by experienced employees such as the long-standing executive chef Stephan Eberhard, the Swiss shooting star Reto Brändli from the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer and the master of the sweet craft, Chef Pâtissier Steffen Holle.
The offers at a glance:
The Adlon Brunch is making a comeback: for all lovers of the extensive breakfast, the Grand Hotel offers a themed brunch on its Bel Etage on the last Sunday of every month. The series will open on 26 February 2023 under the theme "Surf and Turf". The theme of “Cherry Blossom” follows in March. The Adlon Brunch takes place between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., ushered in by a champagne reception in the Large Wintergarten. Live entertainment and a kids’ club complete the Sunday experience. The price per person, including a glass of champagne, soft drinks, red and white wine, tea or coffee, is EUR 169. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 pay half-price.
The Adlon Afternoon Tea, which is celebrated around the elephant fountain in the hotel lobby during the week, will also be taking place on the spacious Bel Etage at the weekends. In the period from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the highlight of every tea lover is offered here in three variations:
Classic with a fine selection of sandwiches and caviar with blinis, egg yolk cream and sour cream nut butter espuma as an amuse-bouche, followed by sweet creations from the in-house patisserie and traditional British scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream. Finally, a "Baba au rum" pound cake is served, soaked in a mixture of sugar syrup and rum, flamed in front of the guests to give it a lightly caramelized crust.
Vegan: For the first time, this classic is also available in a vegan version. In addition to truffle caviar, celery with small sourdough bread as a greeting from the kitchen, spelt sandwiches with tofu, tomatoes and olives, wholemeal toast with oyster mushrooms and onions or a summer roll with vegetables and peanuts are offered, followed by tempting tartlets and cakes, as well as scones, jam and vegan cream cheese.
For children: The "Children's Afternoon Tea" was brought back to life for them - consisting of ingredients that make a little heart beat faster: potato waffles with quark and cucumber, spelt sandwich with ham and cheese and a boiled egg modelled as a small chick are served on the children's tableware specially created for afternoon tea. This is followed by sweet temptations like a vanilla raspberry popsicle, a blueberry cookie monster, a grape caterpillar, fruit tartlets and a surprise egg. Instead of the tea specialties, the young guests are served hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. The Adlon Afternoon Tea, classic or vegan, is offered at a price of EUR 79 per person, including a glass of champagne. The children's afternoon tea costs EUR 39 per child up to 12 years. In the summer months of June to August, the summer edition of the Adlon Afternoon Tea moves to the light-flooded Restaurant Quarré.
"Daily Dish" in the Quarré restaurant: In addition to the à la carte menu with regional, seasonal and international offers, a changing dish of the day has now also been introduced. Tribute is paid to popular classics: the young Quarré team serves Berlin veal liver every Tuesday, Wiener Schnitzel every Thursday and a vegetarian dish every Wednesday. The Daily Dish, including a side salad, a small bottle of water and a cup of coffee, can be ordered between 12:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for EUR 28.
The "Elephant Bar": The Smokers Lounge on the ground floor of the hotel, which was added as part of the extensive redesign of the public areas in 2016 and is equipped with the latest exhaust air technology, has a new name: Due to its proximity to the famous elephant fountain in the lobby, it was renamed "Elephant Bar” and, at the same time, expanded the range of offers. In cooperation with the Berlin company Thomas Henry, unusual cocktails, long drinks and rare spirits are offered here from Monday to Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, and Friday and Saturday until 1:00 a.m. For cigar lovers, fine cigars from the hotel's Noblego shop are available for sale in the humidors, and music from the 1920s creates a lively atmosphere.
"Lorenz Adlon & Friends" in the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer: This top-class series of events in the two-star restaurant of Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin promises another culinary highlight. On four Sundays in 2023 (23 April, 25 June, 17 September and 12 November), Reto Brändli and another top chef will create a first-class six-course menu, with three courses from the host and three courses from the guest chef to get prepared. Brändli's former teacher and mentor Rolf Fliegauf from the Restaurant Ecco**, Hotel Giardino, in Ascona (on 25 June), as well as two other former Fliegauf students and friends of Reto Brändli, Patrick Mahler from the restaurant focus Atelier **, Park Hotel Vitznau, Vitznau (17 September) and Stefan Heilemann from the Widder Restaurant**, Hotel Widder, in Zurich (12 November) have already confirmed. Reto Brändli will start with the Italian star chef Carmelo Greco from the Carmelo Greco* restaurant in Frankfurt (23 April). The evenings begin at 6:30 p.m. with an aperitif, and the menu that follows begins at 7:00 p.m. Seating is arranged at individual tables. The six-course menu, including the accompanying and corresponding drinks is offered at EUR 495 per person.
Outlook:
Cuban-Mexican weeks in the Quarré restaurant and in the Elephant Bar: It's going to be exotic - the month of March is all about Caribbean specialities from Cuba and Mexico. A chef de cuisine, a bartender and a cigar sommelier will be flown in from the Kempinski hotels in Havana and Cancún to present Mexican signature dishes in the Quarré and selected Cuban cocktail classics and cigars in the Elephant Bar.
The Adlon cake to take away: the sweet temptation was created by Steffen Holle and his patisserie team on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the hotel legend since it reopened last year. The elegant creation, covered with a couverture of dark Valrhona chocolate and hazelnuts, impresses with its sophistication: juicy pecan nut sponge cake alternates with layers of creamy chocolate-orange ganache and a strong caramel cream with fine fleur de sel and flavoured Tahitian vanilla. A delicate base of fluffy amaranth and crispy feuilletine rounds off the harmonious interplay of aromas and textures. The Adlon cake is now to be offered in two sizes (18 cm and 26 cm in diameter) priced at EUR 69 and EUR 110 to take away in the in-house coffee shop “Adlon to go”.
The “Adlon to go” is reusable: since January, the traditional hotel's coffee shop has opted for reusable products from RECUP for its coffee specialities to take away. In the future, lunch specialities for at home or in the office will also be offered here in the REBOWL reusable bowls. Reservations for all of the above are accepted by email at [email protected] or by phone on; 030-2261 1959.
