Berlin, 3 March 2022 - According to Gault & Millau, he cooks the best cuisine in the Engadine. Now the exceptional Swiss talent is coming to the German capital. Reto Brändli, who has already earned two Michelin stars and 17 Gault Millau points, will be taking over the reins at Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer on 1 May 2022. He replaces Hendrik Otto, who has delighted gourmets from all over the world since April 2010. The arrival of the only 31-year-old Reto Brändli heralds a new era at the gourmet restaurant with the iconic view to the Brandenburg Gate.
“He is considered the leading light of young Kempinski chefs. Bringing him to Berlin is probably the greatest gift to the Adlon, as we celebrate our 25th anniversary,” says Michael Sorgenfrey, Managing Director of the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin. "Even if we can't offer him mountains for snowboarding, we‘ll give him every opportunity to express himself creatively and to set his own signature. Berlin gourmets and Adlon guests can look forward to culinary fireworks.”
Berlin will be Brändli's first post abroad. He comes to Berlin from Hotel Adlon’s sister hotel “Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski St. Moritz”, where he has worked at their restaurant Cà d'Oro for just over three years alongside Executive Chef Matthias Schmidberger, first as Sous Chef and then as Head Chef since June 2020. In 2021, the restaurant received the coveted second Michelin star.
Brändli learned from the best in his profession. He completed his chef training with Kurt Röösli at the Hotel Waldhaus Sils, Sils-Maria. An internship at the Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville, Crissier, under the then 3-star chef Benoît Violier was followed by a position with Dario Ranza, master of Ticino cuisine, at the Hotel Villa Principe Leopoldo, Lugano. And he didn't leave out superstar Andreas Caminada either. Brändli trained with him for one year at the Schloss Schauenstein restaurant in Fürstenau. Having risen to the position of Chef de Partie, the talented young chef then continued his career at Restaurant Ecco, Ascona and Champfèr-St. Moritz, with 2-star chef Rolf Fliegauf.
Reto Brändli can be sure of the full support of his team as he settles into his future place of work, Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer. In addition to the experienced Executive Chef Stephan Eberhard, the highly accomplished Maître Oliver Kraft with his well-rehearsed service team and Hans-Martin Konrad, recently promoted to Head Sommelier, are all greatly looking forward to working with him.
After an intensive period of preparation, the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer will reopen under the direction of the new Swiss star chef on 18 May 2022 with an 8-course menu.
