Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko Donated One Tonne of Food to the BEAR SANCTURY Belitsa

Bansko, 24 October 2024 – Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko continued its noble tradition on 24 October by donating over one tonne of fresh fruits to the BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa for the twelfth consecutive year. This donation, timed perfectly for October when bears prepare for hibernation and require more food and vitamins, ensures the bears can forage as they would in the wild.

BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa, a unique Bulgarian sanctuary established in 2000 through a collaboration between the Foundation Brigitte Bardot and FOUR PAWS, provides exceptional care for rescued brown bears. Currently home to 15 bears aged 8 to 35, the sanctuary offers ample space for walking and climbing. Many of these bears are former "dancing bears" rescued from exploitative situations in Bulgaria and Balkan countries like Serbia, Croatia, Albania, and North Macedonia. Others were saved from poor captivity conditions in zoos, circuses, and hotels. At the sanctuary, bears undergo rehabilitation and recovery in an environment that mimics their natural habitat, featuring trees, wading pools, dens, and enrichments to keep them active and curious. On the occasion of the visit, General Manager Rene Detzen remarked, “I am very proud that the team initiated the ‘One Team – One Goal – One Tonne of Food’ initiative and has supported it for twelve years. It is heartening to see the bears now receive proper care in a safe environment after enduring such hardships. I commend everyone involved in the care of these bears and assure that Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko will continue to support their noble mission.”
