Bangkok, 30 May 2024 – For the first time in Bangkok, a unique culinary collaboration brings together the finest Scandinavian and Danish-Thai traditions. Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin and Villa Frantzén join forces for a remarkable dining experience themed "Midsommar."
Midsommar is a beloved Nordic celebration that marks the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Celebrated with joy and festivity, Midsommar traditions vary across the Nordic countries. This year, Midsummer's Eve falls on Friday, June 21, and Midsummer's Day on Saturday, June 22.
Danish Midsommar features family gatherings, traditional songs, bonfires, and classic dishes like ærtesuppe (pea soup) and rødgrød med fløde (red berry pudding with cream). Conversely, Swedish Midsommar is often celebrated in the countryside with picnics, maypole dances, and traditional delicacies such as pickled herring, new potatoes, and Prinsesstårta (Princess Cake).
This collaboration will merge these distinct traditions, showcasing the talents of two exceptional chefs: Nilas Corneliussen from Villa Frantzén and Henrik Yde-Andersen from Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin. Nilas, Danish-born chef, Swedish at heart, and Henrik, the Danish-born chef inspired by Thailand, will present their different interpretations of Midsommar over two exclusive dinners, each one blending in their respective restaurant’s DNA.
The first dinner will be on June 25 at Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin in the Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, followed by a second dinner on June 27 at Villa Frantzén. Guests can expect unique dishes such as Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin's White Asparagus with Tom Ka Slush, Dill Marinated Crayfish with Red Curry, and National Danish rødgrød, alongside Villa Frantzén's New Potatoes with Crème Fraîche, Brown Butter and Anchovies Sauce, Grilled Lamb with Pomme Anna, and Villa’s take on the iconic Swedish Prinsesstårta.
Both dinners will feature identical menus, including six exclusive bites and a six-course tasting menu with petit fours. Each chef will prepare three unique bites, three main dishes, and two petit fours. The menu is priced at 4,900 THB++ per person. A wine pairing option will also be available at 3,500 THB++.
*All dining prices exclude the 10% service charge and 7% government tax.
