Papua & Maluku

Formerly known as Irian Jaya, Papua makes up half of the second largest island in the world, new Guinea. The region is filled with rainforests, dramatic landscapes and idyllic underwater life that create a surreal spectacle for visitors. Similarly, Maluku is also known for its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters. The island holds a big historical significance, as the "Spice Islands". The area was once a huge presence in the global spice trade, as Maluku was coveted for the nutmeg and cloves that grew on the islands.
