With adventures waiting in every corner of the globe, and an ever-growing list of dream destinations on our radars, luxury travel writer Melanie Coleman walks us through some of the Instagram-worthy photo spots that Berlin (home to Hotel Adlon Kempinski) has in store for visitors.
In a world where we all feast on images of breathtaking beauty and spectacular sites as we hanker after our next adventure, I’ve been inspired to delve deeper into the magnetic city of Berlin. With my own favourite places and spaces, along with heavenly highlights from photographer @manueldietrichphotography, allow me to guide you through a curated list of the most Insta-friendly moments in the captivating capital.
From historic monuments to picturesque rivers, you won’t be short of legendary landmarks to capture on camera in this scenic city.
For an alluring backdrop for your pictures, one of the best photo spots in Berlin is the Reichstag with its neo-classical architecture featuring splendid symmetry and grandeur. From the traditional to the modern, check out the colossal and innovative glass dome that sits on top. Designed by esteemed architect Norman Foster, from the outside you’ll have stunning panoramic views of the city across the rooftops. The spiralling ramps on the inside of the dome, encircling a tower of mirrors, is ideal for more creative shots, so make sure your camera is poised.
The Brandenburg Gate, topped by a golden chariot and built more than 200 years ago, is one of the most iconic and photographed sites in the city. In recognition of Berlin’s rich tapestry of history and the fall of the Berlin Wall, this monument has come to represent reunification and resilience.
And, with a stay at Hotel Adlon Kempinski, you’ll have the most coveted position from which to admire it. From the comfort of your room or suite, or from the fabulous restaurant terraces, you’ll see swarms of tourists jostling for a selfie. Meanwhile, you’ll have the smug satisfaction of being able to marvel whenever you wish, from the early morning sunrise casting a pink hue on the sandstone columns, right through to the brilliance of its evening illumination.
“I studied architecture, so waking up to views of the Brandenburg Gate, the city’s most famous landmark, was unforgettable. This hotel is rooted in Berlin’s history like no other in the city.” @manueldietrichphotography
When it comes to losing yourself in magnificent views, the East Side Gallery is a must-see. One of the only remaining stretches of the Berlin Wall and adorned with powerful murals and graffiti, it’s a tangible reminder of history. The experience is definitely heightened by devouring divine ice creams while you gaze at the art stretching out before you!
The Berlin War Memorial, a place of quiet contemplation and reflection, should definitely be on your list too. And for more picture-perfect locations around the capital, head to Charlottenburg Palace with its impressive baroque architecture and grounds. Before you snap and run, it’s worth noting that the inside with its ornate ceiling makes for great shots too. If, like me, a meandering waterway is your idea of a charming vista, the River Spree flows through the heart of the city and sunset shots from the bank look sublime.
For those of us who have a penchant for scrolling images of utterly mouthwatering dishes online, Berlin has plenty of inspirational restaurants to create your own great gastronomic content.
Experience cuisine like never before at the hotel’s restaurant Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer. Crowned with two Michelin stars, chef Reto Brändli has the most astounding way of harmonising Asian flavours. And don’t forget Brasserie Quarré with French and German specialities. The outlook from the terrace as you sip fine wine a stone’s throw from the Brandenburg Gate is almost as glorious as the menu. Finally, your Insta reel wouldn’t be complete without featuring the eponymous Adlon cake, the most majestic creation combining chocolate-orange ganache and pecan nut sponge.
“Beautiful views were never far, whether we were enjoying breakfast in the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer or afternoon tea in our suite. We’ve visited Berlin a few times, but this was our first stay at Hotel Adlon Kempinski and it really is one-of-a-kind.”

When you eventually peel yourself away from the decadence of the hotel, you’ll discover just why Berlin is known as Germany’s gastronomic capital.
From tasting menus at more of the Michelin-starred restaurants through to beer halls with a hearty culinary offering, there’s Bavarian flair aplenty. Think hip delis, traditional bistros, quaint breweries, laidback beer gardens and fragrant street food stalls. There’s a strong sense of experimentation and entrepreneurial edge in the city, which you and your followers will adore.
Of course, it’s obligatory to get a snap of one of your subjects tucking into classic German dishes such as schnitzel, currywurst, bratwurst, doner kebab and sauerkraut. Wearing Lederhosen whilst posing is not a prerequisite, unless you want it to be.
The food scene is appealingly international too. With everything from Vietnamese, Turkish and Korean to Arabic and Asian restaurants, this will be a feast for your palate and your eyes. One of my best memories is getting a welcome taste of the burgeoning vegan scene at an unassuming leafy pavement café. Berlin will certainly sate your appetite as well as creating seductive Instagram moments.
It’s not only awe-inspiring views or perfectly-plated dishes that provide Insta opportunities. It’s all about the little details and the meaningful moments – and Berlin has these in abundance.
An attraction in its own right, you’ll want to linger a while with a coffee, or preferably a glass of Champagne, while admiring the famed elephant statue that greets guests stepping into the lobby at Hotel Adlon Kempinski. As you listen to the water trickling and the grand piano chiming, soak up the unmistakable ambience of grandiosity and elegance. And, obviously, snap a picture or two to help you remember this special moment.
“Just like the city, the hotel has so much to explore and enjoy, from grand staircases to the striking elephant fountain in the lobby.”

For another magical experience you’ll want to commit to memory – and camera roll – spend an afternoon at The Adlon Spa by Resense with its serene style, alabaster walls, dramatic murals and inviting fireplace.
There are also three private suites for your own exclusive spa experience with sauna, steam bath and Jacuzzi. Complete with a bottle of Champagne and treats including a fruit platter, this is the type of blissful relaxation that will actually make you want to step away from your phone (after you’ve shared your Insta story, naturally).
For aspiring photographers, lighting, texture and ambience make a big difference. With cherrywood, mahogany, granite, marble, leather, velvet and brass, Hotel Adlon Kempinski is draped in the most luxe materials, along with exquisite linens and glass chandeliers. All of these incredible details, and the exacting eye for design, are calling out to be immortalised on film (or the cloud).
With undeniable charm and opulence, this is the most enchanting setting for a relaxing getaway, and for an attention-grabbing Instagram reel too.
